Gone are the days when the warm vibrance of locally made woollen
carpets adorned the dung plastered drawing rooms of the Himalayan
homes. With the age-old Kumauni carpet designs getting out of vogue,
the carpet market in the Kumaon-Garhwal region has been dwindling. The
modified designs from Benaras and the adjoining areas in Uttar Pradesh
have instead taken over the charge of beautifying the Himalayan
floors.
